So 3D crystal photo glass and an optical-glass photo block describe the same material under different names, and neither word is marketing spin. The crystal versus glass terminology is a naming difference, not a material one.

What K9 optical crystal actually is

K9 optical crystal is made for clarity. It is an optical-grade glass with smooth, polished edges, which is why a finished block reads as bright and transparent and lets the engraving catch ambient light. Written the other way round, it is K9 optical glass: the same material, named for what it is rather than how it is sold. It is lead-free, unlike the lead crystal used in chandeliers and cut glassware, which is a different material with a different purpose.

How it differs from acrylic

An acrylic photo block is PMMA, a clear plastic: lighter and more impact-tolerant. A K9 crystal block is glass, heavier in the hand, with the depth and sparkle people associate with the word "crystal." Acrylic also takes a full-colour print, where crystal engraves in clear-and-white only.

Looking after it

Optical crystal needs very little. Wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth, with no liquids or solvents on the polished surface. Keep it out of long direct sunlight, which can cause localised heat. The engraving sits inside the material rather than on a coating, so ordinary display and handling do not wear it.
