Custom Photo Block Puzzles: Personalized Building Brick Photo Decor

A photo block puzzle turns your picture into a panel of printed building bricks, also called photo building blocks. You connect the bricks to complete the image, then use the included supports to display it on a desk or shelf. Our Photo Block Puzzle comes in five variants across square, rectangular, and heart shapes. All are for ages 13 and up.

The photo runs across the front faces of the bricks. The finished build has depth, but the picture remains a flat printed image with visible brick seams. Choose the shape around your photo first, then compare the size and number of pieces.

What Comes in a Photo Block Puzzle Kit?

Each of our five variants includes the printed bricks for your selected design, a baseplate, a printed assembly guide, and two unprinted support pieces for display. Keep the two plain pieces with the kit: they are supports, not missing sections of the photograph.

The photo is already printed across the brick faces. Your job is to connect the pieces in the arrangement shown in the guide. Follow its layout for the baseplate and supports rather than assuming the picture will balance on its bottom edge alone.

Choose the Shape and Finished Size

The two 96-piece options have different outlines and dimensions. Check both the shape and piece count when ordering, especially if you are choosing a spot on a narrow shelf.

Photo block puzzle variants and finished dimensions (width × height)
Variant Inches Centimeters
46 pieces, square 4.4 × 4.5 11.1 × 11.5
96 pieces, rectangular 6.2 × 7.6 15.8 × 19.4
144 pieces, rectangular 7.5 × 9.5 19.0 × 24.2
48 pieces, heart 6.3 × 5.7 15.9 × 14.4
96 pieces, heart 9.4 × 8.4 23.9 × 21.3

These measurements describe the picture panel. Leave additional room for its display supports; the figures are not a shelf-depth measurement.

  • Square: Consider the 46-piece option for a compact display with one prominent subject or a close group. Check that the crop keeps the important faces large enough to recognize.
  • Rectangular: Both variants are taller than they are wide. Compare the 96- and 144-piece sizes, and check how a wide photograph crops to the selected portrait layout.
  • Heart: Keep faces inside the broad central area. The notch at the top and the narrowing lower point reduce the space available near the outline. Both heart sizes need this crop check.

More bricks change the build and the size of the panel. They do not add detail to a blurry source photo. Pick the image and display size together instead of treating piece count as a print-quality rating.

Choose a Photo That Works Across Brick Seams

Brick boundaries remain visible through the finished picture, including across faces. Use a photo with a clear subject and enough space around the edges to fit the chosen outline.

The printed image continues across the joints between bricks. The seams are part of the finished appearance.

Before uploading, check the following:

  • Face size: Look at how much of the picture each face occupies. A distant group leaves less room for each person than a close portrait, even when the file has plenty of pixels.
  • Shape: Leave room around heads, ears, hands, and any other details you want to keep. Pay particular attention to the heart's top notch and lower point.
  • Focus: Open the original photo and inspect the subject closely. A larger file cannot correct motion blur or missed focus.
  • Small details: Tiny lettering and thin lines can cross several seams. Keep any message short and use the optional text field for the words you want added.

For this brick puzzle, we recommend a photo of at least 2 megapixels for the 46- and 48-piece variants, or 4 megapixels for the 96- and 144-piece variants. These are image-resolution recommendations, not a guarantee of sharpness. Start with the original photo rather than a screenshot or compressed copy. Our photo selection guide explains how to check focus, lighting, and resolution.

How to Assemble the Printed Bricks

Use the printed assembly guide to establish the layout, then match the picture across neighboring bricks as you build. The studs and hollow undersides connect the bricks; the photo is on the side faces that form the front of the panel. The pieces are compatible with standard building bricks and baseplates.

Loose pieces show how the image is divided between bricks. Match both the printed details and the layout in the assembly guide.
  1. Prepare a clear surface. Spread out the printed pieces where you can see their images, and keep the baseplate and two plain support pieces nearby.
  2. Identify the outline. Check the guide for the square, rectangle, or heart you ordered. A heart has stepped edges, so a piece that fits mechanically is not necessarily in the correct picture position.
  3. Match the image as you connect pieces. Follow recognizable details such as clothing edges, hair, or lines in the background. Check that these continue across neighboring seams.
  4. Check each section before moving on. If a face or line jumps out of alignment, compare the nearby pieces with the guide. Do not force a piece into place to make the picture fit.
  5. Set up the display supports. Follow the guide for the baseplate and the two unprinted support pieces, then check that the finished panel is stable before leaving it upright.

Assembly typically takes 5 to 30 minutes. Use the printed guide to check the arrangement as you connect the pieces.

Display and Handle the Finished Puzzle

Use the included support pieces on a level indoor surface. Keep the finished panel back from the edge of a desk or shelf, where a hand, cable, or moving object could knock it over.

Support the assembled panel from underneath when moving it. Individual bricks can come loose if the build is bumped, so check the connections and supports after repositioning it. Keep it out of persistent direct sunlight.

The brick panel's support arrangement is different from framing a flat jigsaw. If you are planning a display for that format instead, use our photo puzzle frame and display guide.

Photo Block Puzzle or Acrylic Photo Block?

The names are close, but the products are different. A photo block puzzle is a set of printed building bricks that you assemble into a standing panel. An acrylic photo block is a single solid piece of clear acrylic with your photo printed on the rear surface and nothing to assemble; our acrylic photo block guide explains that format. For a ready-to-display acrylic piece, see our acrylic photo block.

Printed photo bricks and brick mosaics form the picture in different ways; compare the methods before choosing a kit.

For seams, named sizes and the build-or-display decision, compare a photo block puzzle versus acrylic block.

Photo Block Puzzle or Jigsaw Photo Puzzle?

Choose a photo block puzzle when you want to connect printed bricks and display the finished panel using its supports. Choose a custom jigsaw puzzle when you want to fit flat interlocking pieces together on a table. Both formats are for ages 13 and up.

Our photo puzzle and photo block puzzle comparison covers the format decision in more detail. You can also browse the custom photo puzzles collection to see the available products.

Personalize and Order Your Photo Block Puzzle

Questions Before You Order

Will a brick seam cross the face in my photo?

It can. The portrait examples above show faces spanning several bricks. Choose the photo with that visible grid in mind; a continuous printed face without seams is a different finish.

Can I add more than one photo?

The order form has one image upload rather than separate fields for arranging several photos. If you want a collage and need help checking whether your layout suits the brick shape, contact us before ordering. We also offer a Photo Collage Custom Puzzle in the flat jigsaw format.

Are the two plain pieces meant to have a photo on them?

No. The two unprinted pieces supplied with every variant are display supports. Keep them with the printed bricks and follow the assembly guide when setting up the finished picture.

Does a photo block puzzle work with standard building bricks?

Yes. The bricks use standard stud dimensions, so the printed tiles snap onto a standard building baseplate and mix with standard bricks. The kit includes its own baseplate and two supports for standing display.

Can I return a personalized photo block puzzle?

We cannot accept change-of-mind returns because each puzzle is printed from your personal image. If your kit arrives damaged or has a printing fault, contact us at support@giftenova.com within 7 days of delivery and we will remake or refund.
